Top 3 Stats from the Voice of the Homeowner Study
In our latest video, I walk through the top three findings from the Voice of the Homeowner report—Habitelligence’s inaugural research study, based on responses from 576 U.S. households.
This research explores how homeowners are approaching decisions in three major areas: home energy, climate control, and water and air quality—not just in terms of what they’re buying, but why they’re buying it and what they hope to achieve.
1. Energy Storage is Taking Center Stage
While solar panels often lead the conversation, the research shows homeowners are increasingly interested in battery storage and supporting infrastructure. In fact, 88% of those considering energy upgrades were exploring options beyond just solar.
This shift reflects a growing interest in smarter energy management, grid independence, and innovations like EV-to-home charging.
2. Climate Control is About Cost Control
Homeowners aren't frequently dealing with heating and cooling system breakdowns, but high energy bills remain their biggest concern—mentioned twice as often as mechanical issues.
Future Habitelligence research will explore the role of automation and advanced control systems—like smart thermostats, zoned climate systems, and innovations in heat pumps—to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
3. Water and Air Quality is About Peace of Mind
Unlike energy and climate control, water and air upgrades are primarily driven by health and safety. Many homeowners experience issues with water contaminants or poor air quality, often without regular testing to track changes or improvements.
We’ll be exploring trends in whole-home treatment systems and how homeowners evaluate the actual performance and impact of their water and air quality investments.
